Was sind Metadaten?

Metadaten sind beschreibende Daten zu GIS-Datenbeständen.

Metadaten für GIS-Systeme enthalten unter anderem Angaben über:

• Format (Raster oder Digital)
• Koordinatensystem
• Datenqualität
• Themengruppen, Geltungsbereich, Fachbereich
• Adressen für Ansprechpartner
• Aktualität bzw. Aktualisierungsrhythmus
